We are back !!! Great to seeing rowing happening all around the country kicking off. Looking through all the images looks like not much surf yet so let’s all pray to the surf gods for some waves.

Stoked to see our sport growing with some additional female sweeps into the ranks around the country. I got to witness first hand, Ally from North Steyne SLSC first carnival she did a great job getting out and back safely.

As we lead into Xmas our state selection carnivals are taking place. This is a exciting time being selected into a state team is a amazing achievement so row hard and have fun. I’m loving all the photos from around the country to keep these coming and don’t forget to tag @teamnavyasrl so we can re share all the action.

Australia’s premier surf boat event will be heading back to one of Australia’s favourite beaches in 2022, bringing more than 3,000 competitors, supporters and event officials to Cronulla in Sydney’s south.

The 2022 Australian Surf Rowers League (ASRL) Open will be held at Cronulla’s Elouera beach from 17 – 20 February 2022, with over 350 surf boat crews from almost 100 clubs expected to attend. This equates to thousands of surf life savers from across Australia who will head to Elouera for four days of exhilarating surf boat racing.

It is the biggest stand-alone surf boat racing event in Australia with divisions of surf boat racing being contested including Open Male, Open Female, Reserve Male, Reserve Female, Under 23 Male, Under 23 Female, Under 19 Male, Under 19 Female and Masters.

The event also features finals on all four days of racing including Masters finals on Thursday, the Interstate Championships on Friday, Reserve finals on Saturday and the remaining finals to be held during the action packed Sunday afternoon.

The ASRL Open is proudly supported by Team Navy, the NSW Government through Destination NSW, Sutherland Shire Council and Elouera SLSC.

Welcome to this great sport @billieasprey so good to read stories such as this!

“One of my four big goals for the year was to join a club + make friends outside of powerlifting.

I spend a lot of time (am joined at the hip) with @_jesshorner now so I have really only been 50% successful in this but I’m feeling really at home at Altona Surf Club.

Can’t say I saw myself rowing surf boats at the start of the year but I’ve been called “somewhat insane” and “Amazonian” this weekend and I’m really at peace with that being an outcome of this decision.

I’m loving spending so much time in the ocean + so much time with these girls and am very keen for a summer of early mornings on the water, post-training cappuccinos, hopefully some nice waves but realistically mostly just complaining that Melbourne is far too cold for this!

Rowing has been such a major upgrade to my lifestyle this year and I’m really thrilled about it”

  • Great to see plenty of local Branch Boat Series Carnivals starting up now in November. Just about all of the various Boat Series have a carnival or more before Xmas to get in those early season races.
  • NSW State Team Selection – with the cancelation of the Tea Gardens/ Hawks Nest November State Selection carnival the NSW State Team will be selected from combined points from the below 2 State Selection Carnivals:

  • Queenscliff Carnival – Saturday 15th January (U/23’s & U/19’s) and Sunday 16th January (Opens & Reserves)
  • Collaroy Young Guns is on Sunday 9th January, this is a great carnival for U/23 & U/19 crews to have solid racing just after the Xmas break, we would love to see some interstate crews come to take on the best NSW crews in these all important younger divisions.

  • Mooloolaba Young Guns Academy
What an exciting adventure we have been on over the past 6 weeks introducing Surf Lifesaving & Surfboats to our keen participants. We have had so much interest & support from all parts of our Surf Lifesaving community.

With our 48 Young Guns participating in our program we have kept them busy, having fun, getting to know each other, learning surfboat skills & rowing surfboats, BBQ’s, guest speakers, participating in other aspects of surf sports & looking forward to a mini carnival & to their Graduation this Saturday.

We are so excited to see junior numbers increasing rapidly and are looking forward to a great surfboat season watching these Young Guns compete at our carnivals.  A huge thank you to Aaron Hetherington & Grant Cooper for leading our team to make our Mooloolaba Young Guns Surfboat Academy such a huge success.

  • Noosa Youth Carnival and BP Wessel QLD Cup Round 1
Noosa Heads SLSC hosted the 2nd Annual Noosa Heads Youth Surf Boat Classic on Saturday followed by the 1st Round of the BP Wessel Qld Cup on Sunday to start the ASRLQ Surf Boat Season.

With 37 crews attending on the Saturday and 81 on the Sunday the event was well supported by clubs from as far north as Mackay and Kirra to the south. There were 70 plus 'Rookies' across all racing divisions attending their very first carnival over the weekend. These Rookies are now eligible for the promo Rookie Reward and go into the draw for the $5,000 prize at the end of the season.

Conditions were perfect even though there was a lack of swell to showcase the skills and fitness of all the rowers to the local Noosa community & tourists, however all competitors had a blast and we look forward to continuing the Youth Carnivals in the coming years.

We'd also like to thank the ongoing support from our major sponsor BP Wessel Petroleum and the ASRL for their contributions towards these carnivals. Special thanks also to local sponsors  Coastal Dry Cleaning, Noosa Fit stop, and Noosa SLSC
