ASRL Open - Overall Information
v Wow just on 320 crew entries will be a massive event
v Good numbers in each Division
v Masters entries are static so the increase has come across the divisions with Open Female down from 34 to 26 and U19 Female up from 15 to 24
v The minimum number of races every crew will enjoy is three
v The start times are looking like 7.30 each day and will be confirmed on the ASRL Website and Team Navy ASRL Facebook in the days prior to the event
v Even with a 7.30 start we are still going to be racing after 5 on both Friday and Saturday and that is allowing for a 7-minute race turnaround time so every competitor will need to work with the Officials to achieve this or we finish in the dark
v It is great to have the crew entry numbers but to complete the program giving every crew the best experience in just three days is a massive task so if everyone pulls together it can be done.
v Area splits are now being developed and will be available on the Website and Navy ASRL Facebook
v We are Block racing and the draft program can be seen by clicking HERE
v Like always we are dealing with Surf so the Referee and Competition Committee will have the final say on necessary changes but hopefully none will be required

12 Feb 2018 - ASRL Committee Event Update
ASRL message re forward planning of the 2018 Navy ASRL Open in the case of a forced location change:
The key for us is to not panic but to have some developed options that can be circulated before crews reach the beach. We must not lose sight that we a surf sport and at times conditions can be tough, we shouldn’t as our first option be looking to run away from surf based off the back of our lowest dominator.
The options as we currently them:
- The surf behaves and we stay and run to program
- We trust the forecast and shift the show on the day or days when the prediction is out of control
- We run some divisions all the way to finals if that matches the forecast
- We shift some divisions to some flatter locations and complete their program or shift them back for finals dependant on forecast
- In the event of time issues because of the size of the surf we revert to elimination plus repechage system allowing a minimum of two rows
A combination of the above will get us out of trouble if required but the pressure will go onto the back of beach detail.
With this information you will also see
- our backup beach plan and this can shift further north if required
- the surf report and comment as of early Monday 12 Feb. 18
Remember we are dealing with a sever weather event way out at sea so anything can change and we are doing our best to stay across the available information and will make the best decisions we can but you will be racing and you may be racing in big surf so our best advice is to come prepared.
Let’s hope this additional preparation is all wasted and the surf gods leave us be.
Please keep watching the ASRL Website and ASRL Facebook for updates and information as we have it and remember surf is the first part of the word surfboat.
