Ellis Beach SLSC are holding their carnival on the weekend of the 22/23 of September. Surf Boats are back on the event list after many years. Any clubs, crews, rowers or sweeps are invited to register their interest through This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Direct all enquiries to the Surf Boat Officer.

Ellis Beach is 2 minutes from Palm Cove, 15 minutes from Cairns International Airport, and 20 minutes north of Cairns CBD. We are trying to build surf boats in the far north. Interest from clubs down south would be greatly appreciated and go along way to building the sports reputation up this way.

Any assistance we can provide we will. This includes sourcing equipment. Inter-club crews are a possibility.

Ellis Beach provides an experience similar to Port Phillip Bay, or Umina/Ocean Beach. If the conditions are right there can be 2-3 foot swell, 1-2 wind chop, or glassy lake like conditions. This carnival would suit crews/rowers looking to build their confidence, as it presents racing in a comfortable locale.

Ellis Beach boaties are just getting started again as you say. I swept a couple of their crews in training several weeks ago before they went to Mission Beach for an official state training day with sweeps from the Gold Coast. They were keen to listen and picked up on boat/gear set up tips i gave them. They definitely need a couple of decent sweep oars. I hope they all stick at it and are successful in the future.

Thanks Ron. We did not get a proper chance to thank you the other week. All the rowers and sweeps appreciated your helpful advice and loved the opportunity to listen to new people. I hope your stay up this way was worth the drive.
