Many may not know that Sparrow was a Vietnam Veteran. He was also a Level 2 Official and when thrown the keys at the Mollymook carnival did a great job as the event Referee.
A memorable event for the Sparrow was the Broulee Open when he decided while dining in Moruya on the Saturday night that he couldn't be late for Sunday so he quietly decided to take himself off and walk back to Broulee some 15 kl. He arrived tired so spent the night on the beach to be sure he was ready for the early start.
Many stories can and will be told of the Sparrow but he enjoyed life to the full.
The ASRL who Sparrow served for several years on the committee as treasurer say farewell to one of the true characters of surf boats.
