Got that right! Would love one of these...and still looking!
Bob, have sent you an email as I have a full timber you may be able to borrow if I can put my hand up to buy one of the boats when you're done with them.
Chris, the 2nd has been replaced. They were never built flat. or maybe the 2nd was never there in the first place. Some clubs order boats with 1 bar only.
Hornet, I know what you mean it does look like someone has just fixed a solid piece across, I would say it would have no strength & very uncomfortable.
Bob Miles once told me ".........the only reason a quarter bar is in the boat is to keep the sweep on board by giving him/her something to hang on to".
NRP or DKG may correct me, but on today's boats (including the one in the pic) they serve no structural purpose.
Tony, I didn't mean strength as in holding the boat together rather strength within itself. If some one was to come down on a solid piece of timber with any force it would most certainly break causing a lot of damage to the poor rower. I am no boat builder but I do know that by making the bar from laminations & putting the curve in it, it's strenght is greatly increased.
